The Kingdom of God by Francis Breisch, Jr. is a wonderful survey of the older testament (which our children did at the age of 12). It teaches the purpose of each book, information about a book's author, when the book was written, how the book is organized, the book's main lessons, and many other important aspects of each book of the older testament. At the end of each chapter, there are comprehension questions as well as thought or discussion questions.

Strongly recommend listening to Alexander Scourby as you go through The Kingdom of God by Francis Breisch, Jr. In this way, your scholar will read and listen to the entire older testament while learning the proper pronunciation of geographical place names and hard to pronounce names of individuals.

When is the material in the actual book read?
As you will note in The Kingdom of God each chapter pretty much deals with a particular book of the older testament. What we did was look to see what the chapter dealt with — sometimes the chapter would only take on half a book of the older testament and other times it may have dealt with two books of the older testament. We read a section of the The Kingdom of God first and try to answer the questions at the end of the lesson. Then, we would listen to Alexander Scourby perform the Bible for us.

Are the times listed indicate how long it takes Alexander Scourby to read that chapter in the Bible?
The times listed shows exactly how much time was spent following along in our Bibles while Alexander Scourby performed for us. Initially, we read the chapter after Alexander Scourby; however, my daughters felt they got more out of The Kingdom of God and Alexander Scourby's performance if we read The Kingdom of God first before listening to Alexander Scourby's performance.

How long should it actually take us to do a day's lesson?
Generally, reading from The Kingdom of God only took 5-8 minutes (if that much) daily.
