But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9,10 |

Movie: Esther (the first 1/2 of the movie)
Following the conquest of Babylon, the King of Persia gives a banquet for his people at which he requests the presence of his wife, Vashti, who refuses the King's demand. Ahasuerus disowns Vashti and goes in search of her replacement. In his harem, he meets the young girl, Esther, who immediately captivates him with her charm and beauty. Unaware of her Jewish heritage, King Ahasuerus falls in love with Esther. Esther than reveals to Ahasuerus that she is Jewish and asks him to show her people mercy, because of a planned genocide of the Jews by the King's right-hand man, Haman. In doing so, Esther saves the lives of many innocent people and paves the way for their return to Jerusalem. Starring F. Murray Abraham and Jurgen Prochnow. 1 hr 31 min Scriptural correction will be required.

1) What is beauty? What do the following character traits have to do with beauty, if anything ... courage, loyalty, honor, self-discipline, kindness, cheerfulness, honesty, and thankfulness.
2) Is beauty a blessing or a curse? Support your stance.
3) The styles of clothing have obviously changed since the time of Esther. Can we say the same thing for beauty?
4) What is charm? Is it worth striving for?

Do you know the old saying, Cleanliness is next to godliness? We feel better when we are clean! Many hypocrites in the newer testament would go about disheveled so that others would know how "holy" they were in order to receive the admiration of all those within the community and, hopefully, beyond. This is called vanity or, more specifically, spiritual pride. So, we will now ...
1) Take a fancy bubble
bath and soak.
2) We will use deodorant so we do not draw any unnecessary
attention to ourselves like the hypocrites in the newer testament.
3) Put on some becoming clean clothing.
4) Give ourselves a manicure for bright, shiny, healthy
looking finger nails.
5) We will brush our teeth to make them sparkle.
6) We will brush our hair in a becoming manner.
Challenge:
Do you remember the Golden
Rule?
|
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12 |
|
And as ye would
that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. Luke 6:31 |

The Golden Rule is the basis of this Challenge Exercise. First, jot down those things you want in a husband on this Husband Wish List PDF Worksheet. You will notice there are two columns. One column states character traits those things that will carry you through thick and thin during times of testing, trial and tribulation in your marriage. The other column says physical attributes.
How are the females treated in the family of your prospective husband?
Before you marry, look to see (1) how your future father-in-law treats your future mother-in-law and (2) observe how males in the family (brothers/cousins) treat the females in the family (sisters/cousins). Try to discover what the males think about loyalty, honor, duty, humor, etc., by either talking directly to them or by observing their behavior.
| 1) precious jewels to be treasured? |
|
|
| 2) doormats to be walked upon? |
Why? this is more than likely how you and your future children will be treated.
Simply by being observant
and aware will be important in
1) your prayer
life about your decision
2) discussing
the situation over with your parents, and
3) making
this all important decision of whether to marry this individual
or not!
If you should ever be blessed with sons after you marry teach them to observe how males are treated in the family he is considering marrying into Do the females treat the males with respect or are they Harpies? naggers? complainers? do they backbite?, etc.
Note: The assumption has been made that you will marry a Christian husband.
So, how does the Husband Wish List fit in with the Golden Rule? Simple, you need to be the best future wife, daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law you can be. If YOU want the best, do you think your future husband will want any less?
It is so easy to select one type of music and only listen to that type, but that would be like selecting to eat peanut butter sandwiches for the rest of one's life and not enjoying chicken, salad, strawberries, etc. Attempt to expose yourself to a variety of music at least two to three times per week (if not everyday). Helping others to feel at ease and encouraging them to talk about their likes/dislikes is essential to charm and beauty. Art is similar. Go to the library and check out books at least every other week that exposes you to various types of art. Go to At the Movies and learn how Sister Wendy can explain various types of art to you on the Misc. page.

Geography:
1) Compare / Contrast
the weather from Persia (Iraq) and Israel with your own for one
week.
2) Locate Persia (Iraq) and Israel on a globe, map, and
atlas. Identify the capital of each country.
3) Make a meal from Persia (Iraq) and/or Israel for your
family.
