Learning to Multiply by 2s

Two's trick: All products in the 2s times table will end in an even number.

Learning the 2s
 2 x 0 = 0   2 x 7 = 14
 2 x 1 = 2  2 x 8 = 16
 2 x 2 = 4   2 x 9 = 18
 2 x 3 = 6   2 x 10 = 20
 2 x 4 = 8   2 x 11 = 22
 2 x 5 = 10   2 x 12 = 24
 2 x 6 = 12

A fun way to get used to the 2s, is to skip count ...

0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24

Be sure to practice skip counting backwards !

24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0

Give the answers, reading across the graph

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = ? Eleven 2s = ? 2 x 11 = ?
2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = ?  Twelve 2s = ? 2 x 12 = ?

Give the answers, reading across the graph
  5 + 5 = ?   Two 5s = ?   2 x 5 = ?
  0 + 0 = ?   Two 0s = ?   2 x 0 = ?
  3 + 3 = ?   Two 3s = ?   2 x 3 = ?
  2 + 2 = ?   Two 2s = ?   2 x 2 = ?
  1 + 1 = ?   Two 1s = ?   2 x 1 = ?
  6 + 6 = ?   Two 6s = ?   2 x 6 = ?
  4 + 4 = ?   Two 4s = ?   2 x 4 = ?

Give the answers, reading across the graph
  8 + 8 = ?   Two 8s = ?   2 x 8 = ?

Learning to Divide by 2s

The sign ÷ means divide. When we see the ÷ sign we say divided by. Division is a type of reversed multiplication. It just takes a wee bit of practice. (NOTE: 0 divided by any number equals 0)

Be sure to practice skip counting as it helps us to divide quickly ...

0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24

Be sure to practice skip counting backwards !

24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0

2s Division Facts

 2 ÷ 0 = 0  14 ÷ 2 = 7
 2 ÷ 2 = 1  16 ÷ 2 = 8
 4 ÷ 2 = 2  18 ÷ 2 = 9

Before you go on to the 5s times tables, be sure to ...

1) Review your skip counting ... frontwards and backwards

2) Have your daddy, mama, sister, or brother flash
you the 2s multiplication/division facts.
See how fast and accurate you can be !

3) complete the Multiplication Chart for what
you already know !
