Learning to Multiply by 12s

Vocabulary Words:  One Dozen = 12, Gross = 144 (12 x 12)

Learning the 12s
 12 x 0 = 0  12 x 7 = 84
 12 x 1 = 12  12 x 8 = 96
 12 x 2 = 24  12 x 9 = 108
 12 x 3 = 36  12 x 10 = 120
 12 x 4 = 48  12 x 11 = 132
 12 x 5 = 60  12 x 12 = 144
 12 x 6 = 72

A fun way to get used to the 12s time table is to skip count ...

0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144

Be sure to practice skip counting backwards !

144, 132, 120, 108, 96, 84, 72, 60, 48, 36, 24, 12, 0

Give the answers, reading across the graph

Learning to Divide by 12s

Do you remember that the ÷ sign means divide?  When we see the ÷ sign we say divided by.  Division is a type of reversed multiplication. It just takes a wee bit of practice. (NOTE: 0 divided by any number equals 0)

Be sure to practice skip counting as it helps us to divide quickly ...

0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144

Be sure to practice skip counting backwards !

144, 132, 120, 108, 96, 84, 72, 60, 48, 36, 24, 12, 0

 12 ÷ 0 = 0  72 ÷ 12 = 6
 12 ÷ 1 = 12  84 ÷ 12 = 7
 12 ÷ 12 = 1  96 ÷ 12 = 8
 24 ÷ 12 = 2  108 ÷ 12 = 9
 36 ÷ 12 = 3  120 ÷ 12 = 10
 48 ÷ 12 = 4  132 ÷ 12 = 11
 60 ÷ 12 = 5  144 ÷ 12 = 12

When one thing or a number of things is divided into twelve equal parts, each part is called one twelveth.  One twelveth is written 1/12.  We can find 1/12 of any number by dividing the number by 12.

Now that you are done,

1)  Review your skip counting for all the times tables you have done
... frontwards and backwards

2) Have your daddy, mama, sister, or brother flash
you all the multiplication/division facts you have learned.
See how fast and accurate you can be !

3) complete the Multiplication Chart for
what you already know !  See how long
it takes you to complete it !
