Items needed:
Pinecones
Lard (use a blend - see below)
Birdseed
Popcorn
String
Steps:
1. Roll the pinecones in lard, then
in birdseed or popcorn.
2. Attach a string long enough so that the pinecone can
hang from a tree branch.
3. Find a tree that you can see easily; hang your feeder there and watch the birds come!
Alternatives:
1. Use a blend instead of straight peanut butter or lard
2. The forestry service recommends
mixing cornmeal & lard (or melted suet or shortening) in with
the peanut butter before applying to the pinecone.
Peanut butter alone may strangle smaller birds as they cannot
get it off their beaks becoming glue. Add just enough of
each to stiffen the consistency; apply to the pinecone; roll in
birdseed
3. Let the mixture set overnight to harden and voila!

Audobon Society
The Audobon Society provides a lot of information with respect
to birds; however, the information must be taken with a grain
of salt. Since the Audubon Society is not a Christian organization,
some of their facts tend to be a little confused or misinterpreted.
Patuxent Bird Identification
InfoCenter
Photographs, songs, identification tips, maps, and life history
information for North American birds. Also has a forum for commentary
and discussion on bird identification.
The Great Backyard
