Suffixes — Week #3

Why Grammar?  Christian Worldview  Many of us that attended government school were not taught that suffixes or word endings will frequently give a clue as to what part of speech a word may belong (e.g., noun, verb, adjective, adverb).  Yet, this is a relatively simple way in which to easily recognize what part of speech a word may belong.  Yet, not only does grammar teach us about the importance of suffixes, but there is a Christian worldview behind grammar that points us to our Lord.

Briefly review, via flashcards, noun/verb/adjectives definitions, noun/verb/adjectives tests, and suffixes from Week #1 and Week #2.

Adverb Definition:  A word that tells more about a verb, an adjective or an adverb.

Quick review:

Adverb Game
Tell your scholar that the suffix " - ly " says a word is an adverb.  I used the Richard Henry Lee song in the film 1776 to teach adverbs.  The song is cute, fun, fast and is chock full of adverbs like socially, politically, financially, naturally, internally, externally, fraternally, modestly, immediately, shortly, triumphantly, etc.  You may want to preview the song prior to introducting it to your young scholar.

I have tried to give many, many words to add the " - ly " adverbial suffix on to in the Adverb Fun PDF File worksheets to make it easier on the parent !
