Shakespearean Parodies

The Homeschoolers' Ode
— Adapted from Shakespeare's Henry V

We are mark'd to homeschool, we are enow
To do our God glory; and if to live,
The fewer the Christian homeschoolers,
The greater share of honor !

God's will!  I pray thee,
Wish not one homeschooler more
If it be a sin to covet service to our Triune King,
We are the most offending souls alive.

God's peace !
We would not lose so great an honor!
Proclaim it through the host,
That those that hath no stomach for this fight,
Let them depart !
We would not homeschool in that person's company
That fears to serve Christ with us!

He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will say to his neighbors,
"These are the battles we had to go through
With the State to homeschool."

Old men forget, yet all shall be forgot,
But homeschoolers will remember with advantages
What feats they did in that day,
The name of homeschooler shall be familiar
In their mouths as household words.

This story shall the good parent teach his son,
And homeschoolers shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But homeschoolers in it shall be rememberéd, —

We few, we happy few,
We band of Christian homeschoolers;
For he to-day that sweats his brow in Christian education,
Shall be our brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition.

And those that are in the government schools asleep a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they did not homeschool;
And shall hold their government indoctrination cheap
Whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon
Christian homeschooling's finest hour.
