Please feel free to print a copy of any section or all of this list for your personal, family, or private school use. NOTE: PDF file for each section will be available shortly. The compiling of this list in no way implies that a consistent, thorough, and systematic study of history should be substituted for films. Film makers tend to glaze over historical fact and rarely (if ever) present from a Christian worldview.
So, when do I use these movies?
Goof Off Time is a wonderful way in which a family can build memories. Eating popcorn and fresh fruits while watching a movie with your family is a fun way to learn history "on the sly" and enjoy one another's company.
What are the different ways I can use these films?
1) When homeschooling parents or private Christian schools opt to utilize the films on this list, make a Scavenger Hunt of it. See how many historical inaccuracies you can find in the movie!
2) More in depth study of a particular person or timeframe (especially if you utilize the Scavenger Hunt technique)
3) To gain an understanding of costuming, foods, customs, etc. while still attempting to spot the historical inaccuracies.
Where do I get these films?
There are several ways to get the majority of these films:
1) Your church library. Many church libraries are going back to the older format of offering books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, and (now) films/videos to help their congregation. Check here first. Moreover, before you sell your old video/CD that you no loner need, place it in your church library so that your church family may take advantage of the movie.
2) Many of the movies in the various categories have direct links to Vision Video, a wonderful, Christian company.
3) Check your local library. They may have to do an inter-library loan, but the wait will be worth it.
4) Check the "bargin bins" at local department stores. You will be pleasantly surprised how inexpensive some of these movies are!
