Columbus: Secrets from the Grave by Discovery Channel' suggests that Columbus was apart of the wealthy, noble Colum family which would explain his high level of education, his seamanship, along with his ability to move in and out of European courts and marry a woman of nobility.  Through DNA research this documentary holds that Columbus was not Jewish.  However, Discovery's Columbus: Secrets from the Grave did not deal with the issue of his mother or father both identities were highly protected. This group of historians, archaeologists and scientists experienced three years of doing battle with red tape to secure the bones of one of the grave sites (there are possibily three grave sites) of Christopher Columbus and his son.  This group also disproved that Columbus was from Genoa (he never wrote in Italian all of his life) and, subsequently, was not the son of a poor, humble weaver.  The same techniques used for the 911 victims were used in this process as well.
