Flashback

Flashback = A literary technique that reveals essential information about a character's past or a past event.  Flashbacks interrupt the current action or chronology of the story to show a scene from the past

Examples:   Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart   (the entire short story is flashback)
A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner
                    The Snows of Kilamanjaro
by Ernest Hemingway
