More info on St. Lucia Day, 13 December. Lucy was a Christian Sicilian girl that was martyred (murdered) for her Faith in 304 A.D. In Sweden, the youngest girl in the family dresses in white with a blood red sash. To complete the costume the girl wears a laurel wreath on her head with toped candles. After dressing, the girl then proceeds to wake her parents serving them breakfast of coffee, special cakes, spicy gingerbread, and a special Swedish bread.
